Exploring This Picturesque Highland Region

Explore east from Serendipity Bed and Breakfast to :

Invermoriston, The River Moriston Falls, Drumnadrochit, Urquhart Castle, Loch Ness,

Fort Augustus, Caledonian Canal, Falls of Foyers, South Loch Ness,

Glen Affric, Plodda Falls, Dog Falls, Loch Affric, Inverness, Cullodon, Black Isle.

Loch Ness is the largest of the three lochs along the Great Glen, approximately 23 miles in length and 1 mile width with an average depth of 600ft !

Fort Augustus village is located at the southern end of Loch Ness in the heart of The Great Glen, where the Caledonian canal drops and flows into Loch Ness through an impressive series of five locks, built by Thomas Telford in the early 1800's.

Cruise along historic Loch Ness on The Royal Scot enjoying the breathtaking surroundings and scenery of Urquhart Castle or enjoy a few hours searching for a glimpse of Nessie, the infamous Loch Ness Monster!

Explore west from Serendipity Bed and Breakfast to :

Glengarry, Loch Loyne, Loch Cluanie, Glenshiel and Kintail Munro Mountain Ranges,

Glenelg, Eilean Donan Castle, Kyle of Lochalsh, Skye Bridge, The Isle of Skye,

Plockton, Applecross, Torridon, Gairloch, Ullapool, The West Highlands.

Heading towards Skye through the mountainous scenery of Glenshiel and Kintail you reach Eilean Donan Castle which overlooks loch Duich and Loch Alsh. Just a short distance further is Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye Bridge. An alternative route onto Skye is over the Mam Ratigan pass to Glenelg and on to Skye via the small "Glenahulish" ferry crossing to Kylerhea.

The main high mountains on Skye are "The Cuiliin Mountain Range" and two great positions to view them from lower down are from Ord  on the southern end of Skye (garden of Skye) or Elgol, accessed via a single track road winding around Loch Slapin.

There are fantastic views from Elgol across Loch Scavaig and The Cuillin Sound to the small Isles of Soay, Canna and Rum. Scenic boat trips on "The MIsty Isle" also leave from Elgol and a lovely cafe sits on the hilltop overlooking the bay.

Also on the southern part of Skye is Armadale Castle with gardens, a visitor centre and cafe restaurant. Armadale also has a larger Caledonian MacBrayne car & passenger ferry going back across onto the mainland to the fishing port of Mallaig.

Further attractions north on Skye are the Whisky Distillery at Carbost, the Aros Centre just prior to the main Skye town of Portree which offers shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries. On the far north west is Dunvegan Castle and Neist Point Lighthouse can be found overlooking a remote and rugged coastline and to the far north east is Kilt Rock waterfall, Staffin Bay and Duntulm Castle Ruins.

Back on the mainland from The Skye Bridge, a short trip around the coastal road is Plockton, a beautiful fishing village overlooking Loch Carron, there are numerous cafes, restaurants and pubs.
